  5. Description:

Right Turn was established in response to the post adoption/guardianship issues that arose from Nebraska's original Safe Haven law. Safe Haven made it clear that many adoptive and guardianship families were struggling and frustrated and did not know where to turn for help. Right Turn is now the first call a family needs to make for help. During this presentation, participants will learn about the seven core components of the Right Turn program, what the eligibility requirements are, what the funding sources are for the program and how Safe Haven impacted the decision for funding. Participants will also learn about the benefits of behavioral health services, relating to child's special needs, and clear respite plans prior to adoption and guardianship finalization. There will also be discussion on the need for change in services and support to adoptive parents and guardians in creating healthy permanency for former state wards.
