Legislative Advocacy
In January 2020, the Nebraska Legislature came back into session. The Nebraska Alliance identified 139 bills that could impact CACs or multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and took positions on 16 of those. While the Legislature is currently suspended due to COVID-19, the Nebraska Alliance will continue to track and work on key legislative proposals, including:
- an increase in state funding for CACs - incorporated into LB 1008
- adoption of a sexual assault survivor’s bill of rights, which includes access to key CAC services for minors – LB 43
- the reauthorization of alternative response and adoption of clear exclusionary criteria – LB 1061
- clarification about storing and sharing forensic interview recordings among MDT members – incorporated into LB 1148; and
- liability protections for those involved in child abuse and neglect investigations - incorporated into LB 1148
